Night Light | X Gon' Give It To Ya

Reed of the Week

A lot happened over at Twitter in the last week. Elon decided to drop Twitter and its iconic blue bird, and rebranded everything to “X”. He has a long history of naming things X, so I’m not surprised at the direction the platform is going in. A lot of the Twitter community is upset over the recent changes, but X CEO Linda Yaccarino believes the rebrand aligns with X’s goal to become the “everything app” beyond just a social network.

Do I think the rebrand is going to make its users move to Bluesky, Mastodon, and Truth Social? No.

As long as the platform works and provides the value that Twitter has for years, people will continue to use it. Changes like Twitter Blue, allowing videos up to 2 hours, and the new Creator Monetization options have all been made to address long-standing problems within the business. While it's not going to be popular with the entire userbase, it’s clear that X is committed to being a central hub for audio, video, messaging, payments/banking, and AI integrations. I’ll miss the bird, but you can still find me using X.
