Night Light | Let's Get Lethal

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a video game like Lethal Company. For those who don’t know, Lethal Company is a co-op horror game that’s exploded on YouTube and social media since its launch in October. Even as I’m typing this right now, it’s #2 on Steam’s best selling games (right under Call of Duty). The craziest part about all of this is that the game’s creator, Zeekerss, made the game by himself. And he’s only 21.

Concurrent Players Over The Last 2 Weeks

But why are we talking about a video game in Night Light? Zeekerss has been making games inside of Roblox for awhile now. He’s not a developer, he doesn’t have a team, and he was nervous the whole thing could end up being a waste of time. Zeekerss is a creator, funding most of the project from his Patreon and getting help from his community. It’s easy to forget that a lot of the kids that grew up playing and creating in Roblox are getting older and they’re getting really good at making video games.

Zeekerss’s Discord has been a big part of the game’s development

I think it’s too early to call it the next Among Us. But I do think that Zeekerss did a lot of things well:

🔊 The voice comms for the game are amazing. When you die in the game, your voice cuts. It creates funny and random moments that are perfect for YouTube. When I watch the top videos on YouTube, the voice comms are the best part.

💰 The game is only $10, significantly more accessible than a lot of the FPS games out there or those that rely on micro-transactions. I think like Among Us (only $5), trying out the game doesn’t seem like a huge deal when everyone is playing it and it’s relatively cheap.

🎨 It’s visually simple. A big part of what made Among Us successful was that it looked lo-fi and easy to play. Nothing is overly complicated and the movement reminds me a lot of Roblox. I’d bet that this game has a wide age range of players.

Good to see a banger video game made from a Roblox UGC creator. With 56K concurrent players, things are looking good. To put it in perspective Among Us peaked at 1.8K in its first year.
