Kai Cenat is Holding our Attention all November Long

For the second year in a row, Kai Cenat has been livestreaming Mafiathon, which is happening throughout the entire month of November, streaming 24/7. Earlier this year, Kai’s subscriber world record was overtaken by Ironmouse (326K subs). Only 15 days into Mafiathon 2, Kai has already surpassed that, and is currently sitting at 470K subs. Also, 20% of his earnings from the marathon will be going to building a school in Nigeria.

Why is Mafiathon 2 Different?

There’s been a ton of work behind the scenes to pull this off. Because Kai is live 24/7, that’s 24 hours each day that need to be filled with programming. From many of the people I've spoken with who have been watching consistently, they don’t feel like there’s much downtime. Even when Kai is sleeping, there's still something going on—like NPC Miles Morales. Throughout the month, Kai has been averaging 110K concurrent viewers, with 270K at the peak.

My Favorite Streams so Far…

Here are the days with the best guests/moments from the stream that stick out in my mind:

🥁 Day 1: Lil Uzi Vert kicks off Mafiathon 2 with a performance in front of the mansion, followed by Miranda Cosgrove joining Kai for the KaiCarly theme song (sponsored by McDonald's).

🐕 Day 4: Kai hangs out with Snoop Dogg at his studio, and Kodak Black also jumps on the stream.

🇺🇸 Day 5: The morning starts with an opera singer waking up Kai, followed by him giving a presidential speech from his balcony and cooking dinner with GloRilla.

📺 Day 9: The cast of Disney’s Good Luck Charlie visits Kai.

🏆 Day 11: Kai reclaims his spot as the number-one streamer on Twitch from Ironmouse, who held the previous record of 326K subscribers. Serena Williams calls in, Ray and Kai reunite, Marshmello celebrates by throwing a silent disco, and Kai’s mom and family come to congratulate him.

🥪 Day 14: Soulja Boy drops by to eat some mayonnaise sandwiches.

🧪 Day 16: Bill Nye the Science Guy gives Kai some words of wisdom.

🕶️ Day 18: Lil Dicky rates the AMP Freshman Cypher with Kai in the morning, and Ibai joins the stream later in the day.

🪩 Day 19: Benny Blanco cooks “the best steak in the world” for Kai.

The Big Takeaway

Kai continues to set the bar on Twitch incredibly high for what is now expected of Twitch streamers. It’s become less about streaming video games every day and more about creating spectacles and events. These things take weeks or months to plan, but this definitely feels like it’s been the new meta all year. We’re now seeing many other streamers pivot into the moments-and-events category instead of just going live five to six days a week. Excited to see who Kai brings on stream next, as there are still 9 days left.
